Disney moves Maleficent to May 2014
Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar have made a few changes to their upcoming release slate, moving Maleficent up while pushing The Good Dinosaur and Finding Dory back.
Maleficent, which was originally slated to open on July 2, 2014, is now debuting on May 30, 2014. As of now, its only competition is the Seth MacFarlane Western comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West on May 30, 2014. Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning star in this live-action revisionist take on Sleeping Beauty, told from the villain Maleficent's point-of-view.
The Good Dinosaur has been pushed from May 30, 2014 to November 25, 2015, which is likely the result of Pixar removing director Bob Peterson last month. Peter Sohn remains on board as co-director, but the studio hasn't announced a replacement for Bob Peterson yet. The story is set in a world where dinosaurs never went extinct, and still roam the Earth today.
The studio has also pushed its animated sequel Finding Dory from November 25, 2015 to June 17, 2016, where it will go up against How to Train Your Dragon 3. And, finally, Disney has given the live-action drama McFarland, starring Kevin Costner and Maria Bello, a November 21, 2014 release date.
Maleficent comes to theaters May 30th, 2014 and stars Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Kenneth Cranham, Sam Riley, Lesley Manville.
The Good Dinosaur comes to theaters November 25th, 2015 and stars Lucas Neff, John Leguizamo, Frances McDormand, Bill Hader, Neil Patrick Harris, Judy Greer. The film is directed by Peter Sohn.
Finding Dory comes to theaters June 17th, 2016 and stars Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, Ty Burrell. The film is directed by Andrew Stanton.
